There’s something special about owning a piece of handmade pottery. To know that an artist worked over the dirt and formed the clay into your item. The pottery you buy through Lightning Bug Hollow Studios tells a story and connects you to a wider community.

As an artist I enjoy working across a wide spectrum of media. I enjoy pottery, oil painting, stained glass work, pen and ink, pencil, jewelry making, knitting, and more.  No matter the medium of the art I want to make art that is accessible and can be a part of the life of the one who lives with it. Art should be a normal part of our lives; used and enjoyed in the midst of life, not simply hung at a museum or separated out to a rare space. I love making a piece of art that can be held in your hand and used every day.

I graduated from Eastern Mennonite University, while there I took many courses at James Madison University where I had an emphasis on ceramics. I continued to do post graduate work at JMU around ceramic arts, studying with the renowned potter Masako Miyata.  Functional pottery became my focus and it continues to this day.

Since college I have operated my own studio, Lightning Bug Hollow Studios. I continue to work in a variety of media also teaching art in the public schools in Winchester, VA. You can find my art for sale in several shops and galleries around Virginia and Pennsylvania.

I hope you enjoy my art. Feel free to contact me at heather@lbhstudios.com for more information or visit me on Facebook at facebook.com/lightningbughollow/.

I love to work in a wide variety of media. From pottery to oil paintings and beyond.
